Mrs. Evelyn Waldrup Champion, age 91, a resident of Verbena, died on Friday, March 19, 2010, at Wetumpka Nursing and Rehab in Wetumpka.

She was born Aug. 4, 1918, in Tallapoosa County, daughter of the late Clyde Leon Waldrup and Nettie Thornton Waldrup. She retired from Farm Bureau Insurance in 1984 as an insurance agent. After her retirement, she received her real estate license. She loved gardening and completed the Master Gardner Course along with art and painting classes.

Surviving are her sons, John C. (Carlene) Champion of Albany, Oregon, George S. (Pam) Champion of Mt. Airy, GA and David (Lucinda) Champion of Verbena; seven grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Anne Manderson of Vance; sister-in-law, Roberta Waldrup of Montgomery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Champion; daughter, Laurel Lou Trenchard; and brothers, Lee Waldrup, Milton Waldrup and Ed Waldrup.

A memorial service will be Saturday, March 27, 2010 at noon from Verbena United Methodist Church with Rev. George Champion officiating. The family would like to invite friends to her home after the service for the spreading of her ashes in her garden and to the church for a time of fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Verbena UMC/UMW or the Clanton Library. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Martin Funeral Home directing.
