Grace was very much a victim of the Great Depression which prevented her from attending high school. At 17 she went to work in a hosiery knitting mill in Chester where she met and married Dwaine Stevenson 15 JUne 1938. During the WWII years, while Dwaine was in the army, she worked for the government in Washington, When Dwaine came home they moved to Los Angeles California where they lived out their lives. One son, Dennis, was born there in 1950 Grace worked for Baker Oil Tools for 15 years. She really liked the easy-going California life-style which contrasted so sharply with the rural Illinois depression era. She made the most of it: the beach, the horse races, the mountain cabin, watching the movie stars, painting; the works. In later years she developed alzheimers disease and after Dwaine died she lived with a family that cared for her and four other azheimer's patients. After she died Dennis moved to Mexico.
