SHINNSTON -- Mary Ellen Bice Harris, 81, of Enterprise community, died at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2005, at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born September 6, 1923, at Enterprise, a daughter of the late Clyde and Daisy Griffin Bice.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Dennis Harris, who died October 14, 1999.

Surviving are 2 sons, Rodney D. Harris and his wife Janice, Enterprise, and Timothy C. Harris and his wife Karen, Saltwell Road; 1 daughter, Suellen Noon and her husband Ronald, Shinnston; 7 grandchildren, Mike, Brent, Brad and Melissa Harris, Leslie Newlon, Ryan and Kara Noon; 7 great-grandchildren, Courtney, Casey, Jonathan, Hudson and Kallie Harris, Christian and Jacob Newlon; 5 sisters, Lenora Pyles and Betty Burnett, both of Shinnston, Thelma Enoch and her husband Ernest, Poland, OH, JoAnn Toothman and her husband, Jess, Fairview, and Jean Smith and her husband Dan, Searcy, AK; 2 brothers, Everett Bice and his wife Louise, New Martinsville, and Raymond Bice and his wife Thelma, Sebastian, FL; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, Elwood and Nancy Sandy.

Also preceding her in death were 1 sister, Dorothea Hartley, and 1 brother, Lawrence Bice.

Mrs. Harris was retired after 11 years with Fairmont State College, where she was employed as custodian. She was a member of the Church of Christ and Dabblers Club of Shinnston.

Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 2-9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday. A funeral service will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005, with Pastor Kevin Nuzum officiating. Interment will follow at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
