Charles Ellsworth Sayer married Eva Pearl Beezley, born December 11, 1883. The couple had two girls, Nellie Eva, born March 31, 1904, and Mable Corrine, born July 7, 1905, before they were divorced. Charles later married Nellie Mock, born January 5, 1890 in Dayton, Wyoming on June 10, 1912. Charles and Nellie had five sons and two daughter. All the children were born in Story, Wyoming at their home on Piney Creek. Charles Edward, October 21, 1913; Alice Irene, March 23, 1915; Leonard Raymond, February 4, 1917; Clarence Franklin, July 15, 1918; Jesse Earl, December 4, 1919; Albert Lee Roy, August 4; and Ida May, May 10, 1924.
Charles Ellsworth lived in Sheridan for 45 years. In later years, he lived with his daughter Alice Adsit, at 739 Park Street. Charles farmed, raised hay and grain. During summer months, he worked with a grader and a team of horses on the gravel roads from the south end of Lake DeSmet to Meade Creek. During the winter months Charles and his son worked with cattle.
Charles always had good horses. His son remembers, "One old horse had a foot nine inches across. He plowed gardens and cultivated and never stepped on anything. the team was broke to work in timber above Buffalo. A guy dissolved partnership with his wife o he gave the team and wagon to my dad.'
Charles grandchildren often remember him chewing tobacco . They were always anxious to see this process because as Charles took some tobacco, he also gave some to his dog. However, he never did teach the animal to spit.
