Lillian was a 1950 graduate of Salem High School and a 1954 graduate of Douglass College. She earned her master's degree from Temple University in 1959. From 1954 to 1968 she taught home economics at Salem High School.
On Mar. 17, 1961 she was married to Carl R. Catherman. They had a son Karl who married Diane Baldwin and a daughter Lisa who died in infancy. After her husband's retirement they moved to Mifflinburg in 1994.
Lillian enjoyed needlework, reading and travel. In addition to every state except Hawaii she had visited Canada, Bermuda, Germany and Austria. She was a superb cook and baker.
She was outspoken and had a sharp wit which was evident right to the end.
