Chico Record, Sunday Morning, October 7, 1923, pg 5 col 5: Eads Funeral to Be Held Monday From Residence. Funeral services will be held for Samuel M. Eads, pioneer resident, tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the family home on Seventh street, according to arrangements made yesterday.

Eads passed away at his home Friday morning after a sudden heart attack. He was well known in Chico, having resided here for the past thirty-six years.

Rev. W.L. Mellinger, pastor of the Christian church, will officiate. The following will act as pall-bearers: Edwin Sauber, Irvine Coon, Guy Clayton, Lee Clayton, Peter Munjar, and W.M. Whitaker. Westfall directors have charge of the arrangements. Interment will take place in the local cemetery.

Chico Daily Enterprise, Monday Evening, October 8, 1923: "Last Rites Held For Samuel Eads. Impressive services were held at 2:30 today in tribute to Samuel Eads in the home, 4429 Seventh street. Eads died suddenly early Friday morning. The rites were conducted by Rev. W.L. Mellinger, pastor of the Christian church. Burial was made in the Chico cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Westfall parlors. Many beautiful floral offerings were sent by friends. Pallbearers were Ed Sauber, Guy Clayton, Lee Clayton, Peter Munjar, W.M. Whitaker, Irvin Coon."
