"AGED LITTLE MOUNTAIN RESIDENT PASSED AWAY. Ira Ely, an old soldier who has resided at Little Mountain for the past thirty-five years, passed away Sunday morning at 7 o'clock. He was eighty-five years of age and it is to old age that his death is attributed. A wife and eight children survive. Alphonso and C.C. Ely of Little Mountain, Mrs. Maggie Wilkes and George Ely of Mentor, Mrs. E. W. Thompson of Cleveland, Dale Ely of Chardon, Warren Ely of Concord and Lewis Ely of Michigan. The funeral will be held from the home at 11:30 o'clock, Tuesday forenoon."

Corp Ira Ely, Co. F, 105, Oh Inf. Lost his father at thirteen and was raised by his uncle, Didet Clark; apparently his mother's brother. He served as a Corporal in Co. E, 105th OVI along with men from Kirtland, and was with General Sherman on his March to the Sea and participated in the Battle at Lookout Mountain. For many years he was a ship Captain on the Great Lakes. (PT, 1/26/) 1905, pg 5, copied from PLAIN DEALER).

Miltary Service Details
Enlisted August 6, 1862 at the age of 39. Enlisted in F Company, 105th Infantry Regiment Ohio on August 21, 1862. Promoted to Full Corporal on February 24, 1864. Mustered out Company F, 105th Infantry Regiment Ohio on June 3, 1865 near Washington, D.C. He was wounded in the war for which he recieved a pension. Cert 137989 and His widow recieved widow pension, cert 672487.
