Penny J. Schartz, 63, of rural Edna, died at 12:47 p.m., Sunday, January 2, 2011, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri.
She was born August 13, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Ira Ronald and Lora Pearl (Riley) Harruff. She moved with her family to Carthage, Missouri, where she graduated high school.
In prior years, she had attended the Connor Avenue Baptist Church in Joplin. She enjoyed quilting, fishing, flower gardening, playing electronic handheld games and computer games, and playing the keyboard. She and Theron "Pete" Roland were married December 12, 1965. They divorced. She and Dave Baert were married in 1980 and later divorced. On August 13, 1997, she and Timothy Schartz were married in Miami, Oklahoma. He survives of the home.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: One Son – Theron Reed "Pete" Roland, II Cameron, MO One Daughter – Kelly Ann Beckett Diamond, MO One Stepson – Timothy Dwayne Schartz Edna, KS Two Stepdaughters – Koletta Alvarado Cheyenne, WY Susan File Levelland, TX Three Grandchildren Ten Step-grandchildren One Brother – Jimmy Harruff Ohio One Sister – Maryann Mason Noel, MO
She was preceded in death by one brother, Duffy Harruff; and one sister, Sylvia Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Edna. Burial will be in the Edna Elm Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
