John Lowin, 75, of Bloomfield, passed away on November 21, 1978, at his rural home near Bloomfield, from a fatal heart attack.

Funeral services were 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 24, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Bloomfield. The Rev. Clarence J. Hansen, pastor, officiated. Scott Funeral Home of Bloomfield was in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were Richard Schneider, Delbert Utecht, Kenneth Kumm, Walter Wulf, Myron Frevert and Raymond Busskoh. Burial was in the Bloomfield Cemetery, Bloomfield, Nebraska.

John Lowin was born November 18, 1903, in Konigsberg, East Prussia, Germany, the son of Johannes and Auguste (Grenz) Lowin. He baptized in the Lutheran faith there. Together with his parents, five brothers and sisters, the family came to the United States to Knox County, Nebraska in October 1909. He attended schools in Bloomfield. He was confirmed at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Bloomfield, on August 17, 1919. He was employed on various farms in the community. He married Dorothea Bahr on December 7, 1930. To this union were born two sons, Kenneth and Jerome.

John and Dorothy farmed north of Bloomfield and in 1935, they moved to a farm south of Bloomfield, where they have since lived. In October of 1966, he suffered a heart attack and retired from farming. He enjoyed gardening, animals and nature.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Kenneth (Audrey) Lowin of Cedar Falls, IA, and Jerome (Nadine) Lowin of Arvada, CO; four grandchildren; four brothers, Adolph Lowin of Tripp, SD, Henry Lowin of Bloomfield, George Lowin of San Diego, CA, and Raymond Lowin of Sioux City, IA; five sisters, Bertha Repp of El Cajon, CA, Louise Simpson of San Clemente, CA, Helen Hadley and Ella Battern, both of Sioux City, IA, and Hilda Wendt of Tustin CA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Anna in Germany and one brother, Otto Lowin.
