Hilary Arnold - BRISTOL

Hilary Herbert Arnold, age 86, passed away on January 1, 2011, at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center.

Hilary Arnold was the son of William A. Arnold and Daisy Arnold (formerly Daisy Garner). He served in the U.S Navy during World War II from 1943 until 1946 in the Philippines and the South Pacific.

In 1949, he wedded Dorothy Mae Carlton in North Carolina. They were married for 63 years. Hilary was a loving and devoted husband, who took care of Dorothy for 13 years after she became ill.

He graduated from Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY, in 1950 with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture. After graduation, he taught as an agriculture teacher to veterans for 9 years.

Mr. Arnold worked at Raytheon in Bristol for 36 years until his retirement. He was also a part time entrepreneur with a strong work ethic.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Arnold was a member of the First Methodist Church in Bristol, TN, where he made a home for his family. He served with others, and was a good provider to his family and a faithful husband. He was a loving brother to his siblings with a zest for life.

Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by his eldest son, Stephen Hilary Arnold; a brother, Davis Arnold, Hamptonville, NC; sisters, Virginia Apple, Sandborn, IN, Anne Caine, Hamptonville, NC, and Ila Henkel, Statesville, NC.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; their children, Michael Arnold, Patrick Arnold and Patricia S. Carr; their grandchildren, Matthew Hilary Arnold, Kellie Arnold, Lee Matthew Arnold, Rachel Arnold, Vanessa Carr, Rebekah Carr and Andrea Arnold; seven great grandchildren; his brother, William S. Arnold, Hamptonville, NC; and sister, Pauline (Polly) Arnold Fuqua.

The graveside service for Mr. Arnold will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 5, 2011, from the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Chaplain Pearson officiating. Military Honors will be performed by the Boone Dam VFW and the members of the Army National Guard.

The family will have a private viewing.

Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 P.M.
