Gene P. Durieux, 59, Grand Forks, ND died Sunday, July 1, 2007 near Perham, MN.

Gene Parrish Durieux was born October 7, 1947 in Mt. Vernon, OH the son of Leroy and Julianne (Gilbert) Durieux. He was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and both Heidelberg College, Ohio and La Universidad De Valencia, Spain. He earned BA degrees in Spanish, History and Philosophy.

Gene was commissioned in the US Air Force in 1973. He served 20 years and achieved the rank of Major. He was the only navigator in the Strategic Air Command to receive the Doolittle Trophy. He was one of only four navigators chosen to test cruise missiles at Edwards Air Force Base, CA. He retired in 1993.

Gene was a proud member of the South Forks Lions Club, The Patriot Guard and was a volunteer for Grand Forks Head Start working tirelessly for children, families and staff. He was very involved in the Grand Forks Public Schools. Gene was named as the J. Nelson Kelly Outstanding Volunteer of the year. He was involved in Jr. High and High School SPA. He also operated Gene's Classic Sound.

Gene married his wife on December 15, 1973 in Mentor, OH.
