Laura Clementine Gaines, age 95, of Springer, NM, passed away Sunday February 21, 2010 in Springer. She was born May 2, 1914 in Springer the daughter of Fred Geyer and Gladys Hortenstien, Geyer in the family home. She was an only child of an only child so had only a few relatives on her fathers side. She continued to live in this home until she had to be taken to the Colfax General Long Term Care in Springer. Laura is preceded in death by her parents and her husband George (Pat) Gaines. She is survived by her close friends and caregivers, Jerry and Patsy Smith, Roy Akerman and good friends Joyce Hickam and Joe Macaron. Laura will be missed by many other dear and loving friends and staff at Colfax General Long Term Care. Fred Macaron and his family were close friends because she and Fred played together as children and he took care of her and was a person she could confide in. Laura worked as a cashier at the Zia Theater and later she and her husband bought the Geyer Drug Store where she worked until it blew up. She is a Methodist and lived next door the the church where she attended Sunday School and later church. Loving music, she played piano and violin. Being very good on the violin, she was asked to play in a Denver Symphony Orchestra. Funeral services will be Thursday February 25, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home Chapel.
