Funeral services for Mrs. Virgil Mize Turner, 93, of St. Joseph, LA will be held at Young's Funeral Home, Ferriday, LA on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Fulton McGraw Officiating. Interment will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home Ferriday.

Mrs. Turner was born August 23, 1912. She passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006 at Golden Age Nursing Center in Jena. She was a Home Maker, Charter member of Maryland Baptist Church where for many years she was active in all church activities, loved quilting, fishing and working in the yard.

She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. John Drew Mize; her mother, Eulela Elizabeth [Miles] Mize; her husband, Travis Turner and her son J.L. Turner.

[Her father performed Travis' and Virgil's marriage ceremony on 10 Oct 1930 at Walnut Baptist Church in Epps, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana. The couple spent most of their married life near St. Joseph, Tensas Parish, Louisiana, where they farmed and had a dairy.]

Virgil is survived by her son, Gene and his wife, Linda Turner of West Monroe, LA; her daughters, Modez Murphy of Snider, TX and Montez Davis of Jena, LA; her daughter-in-law, Mary Turner of Kingman, AZ; her sisters, Tressie Johns of Alexandria, LA and Lillie Bell Holsomback of Alexandria, LA and her brother Milton G. Mize of Jonesboro, LA. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren.
The pallbearers will be Willie Turner, Scott Miller, Trey Lankford, Mark Stutts, Todd Stutts and Josh Turner.

The family will receive friends at Young's Funeral Home, Ferriday, LA from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 4, 2006.

Memorials may be made to Maryland Baptist Church, P.O. Box 596, St. Joseph, LA 71366.
