Hurst Family History
The following family history was submitted by Leta Drummond, Springfield, Illinois, the enjoyment of our readers.
The Bicentennial has rekindled an interest in our pioneer ancestors and family histories. That is good for it is exceptional if the average person has knowledge of his family beyond his grandparents. If the compiled records of our family can be placed in the hands of our sons and daughters it will help to stimulate interest in family life and keep alive the memory of our ancestory who lived, did their stint, and contributed their bit to America.
In researching records and talking to relatives i have found that thre are sigenerations of Hurst family buired in nearby Light Carmel cemetery. The first of that line is my ancestor, William Hurst who was a Revolutionary War soldier. His son, William Hurst, Jr. his granddaughter, Emily Hurst Markwell; his great grandson Hiram Markwell; his great great grandaughter, Alvie Markwell Parker, and his great great great granddaughter; Neva Parker McClure, all lie in the same cemetery. The latter was my mother.
