Barbara Lola Burdick was born August 31, 1936 in San Francisco, CA to Kenneth & Lola Christensen. Her father was a conductor on a cable car. They moved to Oregon in 1946. Barbara graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1954. She began her Civil Service career in 1960, eventually going to work for the 304th Air Rescue Squadron in June 1964 where she remained until her retirement in 1996. Barbara joined the United States Air Force Reserves in 1973, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant.

One of the highlights of her career occurred in 1980 when the 304th Air Rescue Squadron was assigned to the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY. Barbara was very proud to be a member of the 304th and of their many accomplishments.

After retiring, Barbara volunteered as a driver/deliverer of Meals on Wheels for 10 years. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved bowling, attending local auto races, watching NASCAR (her favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt, Sr.) and her cats.

She is survived by her three daughters, Teresa Nakamura, Dawn Kutter, Pamela Chorney, two son-in-laws, Robin "Bob" Nakamura and Anthony "Tony" Kutter, five grandchildren, Timothy Kutter (Melanie), Jeffrey Kutter (Erin), Kenneth "Kenny" Herndon, Kelsey Breidenbach (Travis), Cassandra "Cassie" Schneider. One of Barbara's greatest joys was her six great grandchildren, and she was eagerly awaiting the arrival of two more in 2011. Her current "kids" at home were Sock and Lilly (her cats!).

Barbara left us too soon and she will be greatly missed.
