Doris L. Berden, age 82 of Cheboygan passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at her home. She was born December 27, 1928 (should be 1927) in Alpena to Ernest and Violetta (Bowden) Rose. On December 4, 1948 in Benton Township, Doris married Frederick C. Berden who preceded her in death on April 30, 1980. Doris was a member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary and taught ceramics at the Senior Center for more than 30 years. She enjoyed playing Bingo and going to the casino.
Survivors include her 12 children, Frederick (Diana) of Traverse City, Susan (Joseph) Carney of Cheboygan, Patrick of Cheboygan, Thomas (Deborah) of Menominee, Dennis (Jackie) of Cheboygan, Dale (Sandra) of Hazel Park, Alan (Sherry) of Auburn Hills, Rose (Mike) Juillet of Cheboygan, Henry (Michelle) of Warren, Beth Ann (Jaime) MacDormott of Auburn Hills, JoAnn (Paul) Kruszewski of Clawson and Karen (Lee) Kelly of Canyon Lake, TX, three brothers, Henry of Cheboygan, Richard (Nancy) of Mackinaw City and Thomas (Doris) of Cheboygan, one sister, Linda (William) Kitchen of Cheboygan, 34 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and brother and sister-in-laws. Besides her husband Frederick, Doris was preceded in death by her parents, a son Ernest in 2000, three brothers, Howard, Albert "Bert" and Norman "Buster" and five sisters, Viola Douglas, Irene Bawks, Thelma Lafrinere, Barbara Rose and Donna DeLoy.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Paul Megge will officiate and burial will take place at St. Francis Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions in Doris' name may be directed to the Leader Dogs for the Blind, the Paralyzed Veterans of America or the charity of one's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
