Obituary: Times-Georgian, January 4, 2011

Mr. Daniel Stewart Jackson, age 88, of Tyus-Carrollton, Rd., Carrollton, Ga., met his Lord Sunday, January 2, 2011. He was born the 3rd child of nine children to the late Daniel Andrew Jackson, Sr., and Lola Belle Wright Jackson on July 13, 1922, in Carroll County, Georgia.

Mr. Jackson married Melba Lucile Nixon September 27,1942, and served in the Army during WWII. After returning from the Army in 1946, he worked at the Playhouse and Carroll Theaters, at a dry cleaners and a furniture store before joining the National Life and Accident Insurance Company (AIG). In 1955 he became a staff manager and moved to Rome with his family where he was active in the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church and the community for forty years. At Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, Mr. Jackson drove the church bus for several years and cooked breakfast for the Baptist Men's Group for nineteen years. He served as usher, secretary of his Sunday school class, and church treasurer. He was active in Carpenters For Christ, serving in the northeastern states and the countries of Grenada, Brazil, and Uruguay.

After his retirement he and his wife, Lucy, enjoyed buying and remodeling houses in Rome. In 1995 they returned to Carrollton and joined Tabernacle Baptist Church where Mr. Jackson was a faithful and supportive member until his death. One of the joys of their retirement was going to Yellowstone National Park each summer from 1991 thru 1999. He baked for the Old Faithful Inn while Lucy worked in the gift shop. They enjoyed the beauty in all the National Parks in the surrounding areas, and enjoyed fellowship with park employees and visitors. Stewart was a gifted woodworker, making many beautiful pieces for friends and family.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his brothers, Nathaniel Jackson, Archie Jackson, Daniel Andrew Jackson Jr., and a sister, Precious Leopard.
