NORTHFIELD--Funeral services for Norman Himle, former resident of Northfield and for the past 15 years a newspaper and publicity man in St. Paul, who passed away in his sleep Thursday, November 2, were held Monday morning. Services were held in Memorial Lutheran church, St. Paul, at 10:30 o'clock, with the pastor, the Rev. Arthur Wickel officiating. Burial was made in Oaklawn cemetery, Northfield at 1:30 p. m. Pallbearers in St. Paul included the Rev. Joseph Simonson, Rev. Joseph Knutson, Rev. Otto Schmidt and Joseph Hennessey, Eddie Handro and Melvin Anderson. Northfield pallbearers were Lester Norstad, Rev. Ansgar Sovik, Rev. H. B. Hansen, Chester Boyd, the Rev. Clifford Nelson and Daniel Nystuen BORN IN CHINA Norman E. Himle was born in Shinyeh Honan province, China, on Sept. 12, 1904, the son of missionaries traveling under a United States passport. His father the Rev. Thorstein Himle was the first Lutheran missionary to establish a medical dispenary in China. He came to America in 1911. A graduate of St. Olaf college, he also took graduate work at Columbia University and at the universities of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Upon graduation from St. Olaf college in 1927, he became instructor of Gale college academy in Galesville, Wis. Here he served for four years and was acting president for one year. He also taught at St. Paul Luther college from 1931 to 1933. In 1933 he joined the staff of the St. Paul Daily news as a reporter. Three years later he formed a partnership with Fred Strong to establish the Strong and Himle publicity bureau. He returned to the Pioneer Press in 1943. During his 19 years as a resident of St. Paul, Mr. Himle was a strong supporter of the Boy Scout and YMCA work. He is survived by two brothers, Carl of Chicago and Thorwald of Medesto, Calif.; three step-brothers, Sanford Haugen, Northfield; Rev. Abner Haugen, Rochester and O. M. Haugen, Minneapolis and his step-mother, Mrs. Anna Himle of Northfield.
