Thank you to M Richards for your very kind sponsorship of my husbands G, G ,Grandfather Ben. He was the one that caused our forty year family search. Your kindness warms my heart .

Benjamin's parents were:
Father : John T Brindley who was born in Virginia
Mother : Ann Twitchett Brindley was born in England (believed to be Angelina)

Ben was in the Mexican War he served with with 1st Tennessee Co. H

Marriage: 1. Sally B. Lockett on Dec.28,1837 in Caldwell, Co. Ky. No Children
Marriage: 2. Mary McKinley on Oct.5,1848 in Jackson Co. Tn. to this union four children were born as follows:
1. Francis (Fannie H. ) Hogan Brindley Jared (1849-1873)
2. Elizabeth (Eliza) Brindley Burton (1851-1919)
3. Angelina (Ann-Dutch) Brindley Petty (1853-1924)
4. Campbell (Cam) Brindley (1855-1900)

Ben, built his home in what is now call Brindley Hollow in Putnam Co.Tn (Buffalo Valley)
What was different about his home was in order to get upstairs you had to go outside and enter another door to get to the upstairs bedrooms. This could be very cold in the harsh Tn, winters The house was built with Yellow Poplar cut from his own land. It was lost for taxes during the depression and the front barn burned down while the family still owned the home place with many old family items in it Brindley , McKinley and Hogan. Many personal items and old photos as well were lost forever
The place was inherited by Ben's grandson John Boston Brindley. He and his wife Lula and children moved into the old home to take care of his grand mother Mary after his mother Tennessee passed away and after their home that was down the road burned to the ground sparing lives of the John's family and not much else.

Ben was a sailor. working on the boats on the Cumberland River and other places this is how he met Mary while she and her mother Eliza went to the boat to retrieve the headstone for her husband who was buried at the McKinley home place. Was told he delivered the stone.

Ben was ten years Marys senior but seemed to hit it off. Mary came from a wealthy family, her father being a Revolutionary War soldier and large land owner in the area . Ben drew his land bounty warrant and starting to build their home . He took up farming and grew wheat among other things on the sloping hills of the Brindley Hollow. They had a good life filling his two big barns to the top every year. He and his in-laws like William Wade Cowen who he served with during the Mexican War and his son Campbell and grandsons Ben and John Boston, Jim hired hands (Other Cannon) all came together for thrashing time. As it was a custom at the time when work had to be done everyone pulled together.

When researching the Brindley family please also consider the spellings Brinlee ,Brindle ,we have found his family under all these. Ben recorded the spelling of his name in the family bible as Brindley, we were told some of the census takers mis spelled the name .

Ben was born in Indian Territory, Ky
His father was John T. Brindley /Brindle
His mother was Ann Twitchett

When Ben was 19 he married Sally B. Lockett on Dec.28,1837 in Caldwell Co. Ky (the family thinks she must have died) but no records of her death have yet been found.

He was 30 when he married 2nd Mary McKinley on Oct. 5,1848 in Jackson Co. Tennessee. They were married by the Rev. Ira W. King ( Minister of the Gospel)

Ben, served in the War with Mexico. He joined the military on May 1846 at Carthage Tennessee as a Pvt. Co. H , 1st Tennessee Infantry Volunteers under Capt Wm. Walton. Commanded by Col. Wm. B. Campbell
He fought in the battles Monterey , Vera Cruz , Cerro Gordo. He signed up for 12 months and was discharged at New Orleans in June 1847. Ben was said to be 5' 10" tall and had dark hair & dark eyes

Ben listed his self as a sailor and worked on the boats on the Cumberland River, we know he received 160 acres for his service in the military and that he split his land and finally settled on 84 acres with his wife Mary in what is now called Buffalo Valley, Tn. It finally became known as The Brindley Hollow Rd. and is now named that, there he became a farmer .

Ben and Mary had four children as follows:

1. Frances (Fannie) H. Brindley Jared June 15, 1849 - April 19, 1873
