She came from a "Blue Grass" family in Kentucky where her father owned 1400 acres and was a prosperous distiller. She left with her husband, Napoleon after the Civil War for Oklahoma with a string of thoroughbreds. After losing them they moved to Missuori and then to Illinois. She was the mother of nine children and lived the last thirty years of her life in Longview. She died while visiting one of her children in Muncie.
