Gail D. Bennett died Saturday, October 21, 2006, surrounded by her loved ones, at home.

She was born on November 4, 1942 in Ossining, NY to Bertha DiGiacomo and the late Charles DiGiacomo. She is a graduate of Ossining High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, a Master of Science Degree from the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Pace University in White Plains, NY. Ms. Bennett, the former Acting Director and Assistant Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Probation, retired in 1999 after serving more than thirty five years with the County of Westchester.

She was devoted to her family and friends. She also was an avid traveler, gardener and enthusiastic Alaskan King Salmon sports angler. She was Vice Regent of the Mohegan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Ossining Historial Society and the Briarcliff Manor Garden Club.

Ms. Bennett is survived by her mother, Bertha DiGiacomo of Ossining, two brothers, Charles (Theresa) of Cortlandt Manor and Frank Evans of Manhattan Beach, CA, two sisters, Bea (Jerry) Spann of Knoxville, TN, and Janet Tavano of Peekskill, devoted special friend and companion James F. O'Connor, seven nieces, one nephew, three grand nieces and three grand nephews, and a warm circle of loving extended family and friends.

Visiting hours at Waterbury & Kelly Funeral Home, Briarcliff Manor, will be on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Pastor Anthony Karlick will conduct the service at Faith Lutheran Brethren Church, Briarcliff Manor, on Wednesday, at 11 AM, with interment immediately following at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Mohegan Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, 196 Croton Ave., Ossining 10562, or Support Connection, 360 Underhill Ave., Yorktown Hgts., NY 10598.
