John Raymond Ashby, 89, of Florence, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at Florence Nursing Home.
John was a member of Kilburn Church of Christ and served in the Army during World War II. He was born in Tishomingo County, Miss., to the late William and Sarah Campbell Ashby.
Visitation will be 3-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at Greenview Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 4 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Kevin Dillon. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park with military honors.
Mr. Ashby was preceded in death by a daughter, Claudette Raby, and a son, Wilburn Ralph Ashby.
He is survived by his wife, Margie; son, Raymond Gaylord Ashby and wife, Beverly, of Decatur; daughter-in-law, Lucille Ashby Anderson, of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren, Matthew Wilburn, Luke, Aaron and Caleb Ashby, all of Louisville, Ky., Evan Ray Ashby, of Decatur, Elliott Tyson Ashby, of Hartselle, Rachel Duncan, of Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Lisa Claudette Duncan, Ava Lennon Ashby, Brianna and Elijah Gusmus; and his dog, John Rufus.
Pallbearers will be Billy Thompson, Robert Fowlkes, Millertt Liverett, Leslie Troxell, Jason Lash and Donnie Dixon.
