Mattie Mae Slaughter, age 98, of Buies Creek, North Carolina, formerly of Conyers, Georgia, died April 5, 2013. She was born in Lithonia, Georgia on September 1, 1914, to the late John and Ella Smith. Mattie Mae spent her life as a homemaker, and enjoyed cooking, baking cakes, sewing, tending flowers, and listening to Southern Gospel music. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Conyers, since youth. She was preceded in death by husband, Robert Bob Slaughter; infant daughter; infant son; son-in-law, Jimmy Blankenship; sister, Montene Miers and brother, Ralph Smith. Surviving are two daughters, Vaniece S. Johnson and husband, J.D.. of Buies Creek, NC, Gloria S. Blankenship of Conyers; four grandchildren, Lisa Potts and husband, Charles, Tami Hull and husband, Eddie, Todd Johnson and wife, Cindie, Tara Trotter and husband, Dean; five great grandchildren, Megan Potts, Kevin Hull and wife, Kristin, Luke Johnson, Ashlee Trotter, Taylor Trotter and Stacey Trotter. A graveside service will be held 11 oclock, Wednesday, April 10, at Sodom Cemetery in Conyers, with Rev. John Link officiating.
