Jerome F. Banghart, 85, died at St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton, IL on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010.

He entered the Army on March 29, 1944. He was in combat duty in Germany and fought the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on May 20, 1946.

Jerome was a machinist for 45 years at Olin Corporation, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus in Alton, and a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge.

He was the son of John F. and Marguerite (Godar) Banghart. He married Alice Narup Aug. 10, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, all of Alton; a sister-in-law of Alton; seven grandchildren and spouses, all of Alton.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Surgeon.

Visitation was held at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. Jim Walther OMV officiating. Burial was held with military rites by Alton VFW Post 1308.
