Amos, George Enlisted at age 23, Eddyville,Iowa nativity Virginia Aug 15 1862 into Co D 36th Iowa Infantry. Mustered out Aug 24 1865 Devil's Bluff,Arkansas.

Also listed in military records was a William H Amos (possibly brother of George Amos), same residence, same company and regiment. Nativity Iowa, age 18. enlisted Jul 24 1862. Taken prisoner Apr 25 1864 Mark's Mills, Arkansas. Mustered out Aug 24 1865 Devil's Bluff,Arkansas.

Based on enlistment, service of George and William included opeations against Ft Pemberton and Greenwood Feb 24 – Apr 5 1863. Post duty Helena ,Ark until Aug 10. Defense of Helena from attack by Confederates who outnumbered the union troops more than three to one – approx. 10,000 Confederates. Jul 4,1863. Battle of Bayou Fourche and capture of Little Rock,Ark Aug 10 –Sept 10. Pursuit of Marmadukes forces Oct 26-Nov 1. Duty at Pine Bluff and Little Rock until Mar 23 1864. Battles of Camden, Prairie D Ann Apr 15-23. Battle of Marks Mills Apr 25 – most of regiment captured and confined at Camp Tyler,Tx till Mar 1865. Those captured were paroled and rejoined regiment at St Charles on White River,Ark April 1865. Action at Jenkins Ferry Apr 30 1865. Duty at St Charles till May 1865, Duvall's Bluff till Aug 1865
