Dear Tom
I haven't written you for a long time, and unfortunately my news are sad ones.
Mother slept away last night - at 9 oclock. She had been rather indifferent in health for some time back, but nothing serious, and as she has had many illnesses, we thought that she would surmont this one. However the night before last, we saw a change, she fell asleep about 11 oclock and never wakened again. Here breathing was labored but of that, she was unconscious.
I am sorry for Father, he wont realize it thoroughly until after the funeral when he is left alone. i have always thought that he would go first, but no, it has been ordained otherwise. Father would have written you, personally, but he is really not able, perhaps later - he may drop you a letter.
Nan is with him just now which is a blessing.
The Funeral is on Saturday. Whe would like him to return with her but he isn't keen on leaving home.
Thanks for the invitation to the Graduation ceremony. Things are different in your part of the world. How is Alice getting on at school and what is her ambition? Jim has just gone to St. Andrews, he went yesterday - his ambition is teaching - teachers (male) here. Must now have a degree before they are allowed to teach. At one time - well, for instance when Bob went through he went to the normal - for 2 years, now they take their degree, then have one years training. Jim reminds me of you at times - he plays well (piano) and after his final exam at the school, he took a quarter at the Pedal organ - and was able to land our organist's job when he was on holiday. Some folk said he played and took more out of the organ than one ??? man. He uses just too may solo stops for congregational singing.
I hope this finds both girls and you young fellow not forgetting yourself enjoying good health. Love from all. Aff. Brother James
