Hildreth, widow of the late Levi Hildreth, was born March 17, 1836, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Thrasher, February 15, 1927, being 90 years, eleven months old at the time of her death. Mrs. Caroline M. Holmes was the last surviving member of the late Thomas Holmes and Sarah Cotton Holmes family, emigrated from Staficher, England. She was united in marriage to the late Levi Hildreth April 1, 1854. The happy union was born 12 children, six sons and six daughters. Three sons and one daughter, besides her husband, preceded her in death. Mr. Hildreth died October 20, 1889. Being left a widow she endured many hardships. Through life she was a devoted wife and mother. The love she had for her children and home was kindly returned by them giving her the most loving care in her declining years. She was a good Christian mother united with her church and her God. Mrs. Hildreth was only ailing a few days but all that loving hands could do was of no avail. She passed away fully prepared to meet her God. Mrs. Hildreth leaves to mourn her departure three sons and five daughters, namely, Mrs. Andrew Thrasher, Madison; Mrs. Henry West, Janesville; Levi, Jr., Dodgeville; Mrs. Eugene Hazlitt; John; Mrs. Charles Thrasher; George, Belmont; Mrs. Henry Hoare; besides 30 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren. Her grandsons acted as pallbearers: Lee Thrasher, George West, William Hazlitt, Marshall Ellis, Howard Hildreth, and William Hildreth. Her granddaughters acted as flower girls. The floral tribute was profuse and beautiful and was mute evidence of the high esteem in which she was held. Besides her relatives, Mrs. Hildreth leaves many friends who will mourn her departure. The funeral was held Thursday at 2:30, Rev. Penn officiating. The remains were laid to rest beside her husband in Graceland Cemetery. The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends. "Not lost to the ones that love you, Only gone before, To the beautiful isles of somewhere, Where parting is no more."
