Local Man Dies In Auto Accident

William I. Masters Burned to Death When Automobile Overturns.

William I. Masters met a tragic death Sunday afternoon about two miles north of Roodhouse when the car in which he and his grandson, Harold Hart, 19, were riding, overturned. Mr. Masters being burned to death. Harold was thrown clear of the car and escaped with serious injuries. Witnesses stated that no part of the car was lying on Mr. Masters' body and it was therefore believed that he was rendered unconscious else he could have extricated himself from the wreckage.

Mr. Masters and Mr. Hart were enroute to Roodhouse, at the time of the accident, to visit the former's son, Orin. The accident was caused when the tire on the right front wheel blew out causing Hart, who was driving, to lose control of the car, striking a concrete abutment.

William I. Masters, son of Giblert and Sarah Masters, was born in Morgan county March 26, 1862, and died Sunday, September 30, 1934, at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 4 days.

He was married to Frances Elemine Daughtery in November 1889. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Grace Hart, of Waverly, Albert I., of Minneapolis, Minn., and Charles Orin, of Roodhouse.

His wife preceded him in death October 19, 1925.

Besides the above named children he is survived by one brother, Albert, of Waverly, one sister, Mrs. Robert Sims, of Virden, nine grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends who mourn his sudden death.

Funeral services were held at the First M. E. church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in charge of Rev. Arthur E. Jern, pastor of the M. E. circuit.

Burial was in East cemetery.
