James "Jim" Robert Hankins was born on April 1, 1958 in Bethany, Missouri to Reverend Lee Hankins and Lillian Hankins.

Jim lived most of his life in Blue Springs, Missouri and he graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1976.

On October 22, 1980, Jim married a former classmate from Blue Springs High School by the name of Maggie Wagner. They had one child named Celia Hankins.

James was a drummer in the Robinson Pike Band and he started working for the Kansas City-based McGee Radio Corporation in early 1989.

James died on May 22, 1989 in Kansas City, Missouri. His memorial service was held at the First Christian Church of Blue Springs at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 1989.

Survivors included: his wife, Maggie; his daughter Celia; his parents, Lee and Lillian; his two brother Raymond and Ronald; and his maternal grandmother Ethel Lion.
