Enlisted February 5, 1865 and mustered in as Sergeant the same day with Company A. 153rd Illinois Infantry mustered out August 20, 1865.

John Wesley Davidson was the son of Hugh Davidson and Jane Hamilton. Both of his parents were born in Scotland. He was a resident at Hebron, Illinois, when he enlisted as a sergeant February 6, 1865. He was mustered into Company A, 153rd Illinois Infantry. Sergeant Davidson was furloughed August 20, 1865. After the war he married Harriett A. Easton at Alden, Illinois, on July 24, 1868. He relocated to Wisconsin about 1874, and was living at Eureka, Kansas, by June 1880 and remained there until after June 1900 (1880, 1900 US Census). John filed for a Civil War veteran's pension at Eureka August 1, 1890, and received application No. 849,628 and certificate No. 633,916. John and Harriett were living at Mesilla, New Mexico, from about 1909 to 1921 (1910, 1920 US Census). John and Harriett had moved to Warren, Cochise County, Arizona, by 1922. John died at Warren June 6, 1924, and his remains were shipped to Eureka, Kansas, for burial. After John's death, Harriett filed for a Civil War widow's pension at Warren June 27, 1924, and received application No. 1,220,913 and certificate No. 953,562. Harriett's remains were also sent to Eureka, Kansas, after her death at Warren on November 28, 1925.
