Kenneth George Reitnouer, 87, Temple, went to be with his Lord and beloved
wife, Myrtle, on Jan. 10, 2011, in Reading Hospital, where he was a patient since Saturday.
His wife, Myrtle M. (Boyer) Reitnouer, died Feb. 24, 2006.
Born in Oley on Oct. 11, 1923, he was a son of the late Abraham and Mable (Endy) Reitnouer. He married his childhood sweetheart, Myrtle M. Boyer, in 1946.
He graduated from Oley High School in 1942, where he was the goalie on the championship soccer team and where he also played basketball and softball. He enlisted in the Army after high school and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
After his active duty in the Army he joined the Pennsylvania National Guard, where he worked full time at both the Hamburg and Reading barracks until his retirement in 1983. He retired at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and received the 213th Regiment Distinguished Member of the Regiment Award in 1990.
Kenneth was an active member of both the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in the Hawk Mountain District. He was Cub Master of Pack 147 and Scout Master of Troop 147, both of Temple and served as Round Table Commissioner for 10 years. He also served as a committee member for Pack and Troop 171.
He was the recipient of both the Silver Beaver Award and the Lamb Award. He was a life member of the Temple Fire Company; National Guard NCO of Hamburg; the Old Timers Basketball Association; and Oley Fire Company and was a founding member of the Pike Township Sportsman's Association. He was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church, Temple; the Oley Valley American Legion Post 878; and the Temple Recreation Board.
Kenneth received both the Muhlenberg Rotary Club Citizen Award and the Service Above Self Award; the American Legion 50 Year Award and the 213 AAA Award. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Voters Hall of Fame and was a past Grand Marshall of the Temple Halloween Parade.
He is survived by three sons: Keith G., husband of Diane L. Reitnouer, Norfolk, Va.; Gary L., husband of Lisa L. Reitnouer, Lebanon; and Todd D., husband of Jamie L. Reitnouer, New Holland.
There are also a brother, Miles, husband of Dolly Reitnouer, Reading; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Milkins Giles Funeral Home Inc., 4914 Kutztown Road, Temple, with the Rev. Donald B. Landis officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Friedens Cemetery, Oley. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 in the funeral home.
