She was born February 26, 1922 to Anna and Joseph Ambert. Evelyn Agnes or was it Agnes Evelyn. It actually WAS Agnes, but everyone called her Evelyn-Effie-Ev-EffieMae---HER choice!----------------we tended to do what she said---she had that power of persuasion over people.
She was a very accomplished athlete growing up in Rosedale, Queens, born right in the living room there in what was once the old firehouse of Rosedale....it had been previously moved from Brookville Blvd. to 247th st. She played many sports in the park on Brookville Blvd. but her favorite was basketball and she played, in fact, with the famous Bob Couzey and in fact played during W.W. 2 with the U.S.O.
Her only sibling, an older brother John, was a pianist.
She was beautiful inside and out. This eventual "Clown For Christ"(a group who dress up and do works of charity visiting deaf schools, orphanages, nursing homes etc.) was a model!----not only a model daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend, teacher, neighbor, parishioner, but a runway model as well! she was a knock-out!
Her working years went from model to hardware store manager to physical education teacher and coach--all while raising five children (Nancy,Pam,Greg,Laurie and Doug) with her beloved husband George.
Evelyn Ambert Fecht -she liked to claim that it was "O'Fecht" being VERY proud of her Irish heritage---she was actually predominantly French and there was some Scottish stuck in there too but you'd never know to talk with her. She was very involved with her church in Rosedale, St. Clare's, both with the Rosary Altar Society and with coaching basketball and softball for the Catholic Youth Organization.
After she and her husband George retired,(she worked for many years for Stella Maris High School in Far Rockaway, Queens as a Phys.Ed. teacher and basketball and softball coach) they winterized their summer home in Sound Beach, in Suffolk county on Long Island and then they had their "paradise". She quickly became involved with her community and church there as well (St.Louis DeMontfort) as a catechist teacher, and was a clown for Christ and secretary for their Senior citizen club where she "chaired" many fun activities and outings.
She passed away too early in a very vital stage of her life at the young age of 75. She had so much more to do, roads to take, lives to touch, though we know her life was very full of love and compassion.
