Deceased Name: Donald Azie Birch "Gone for Coffee"
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Donald Azie Birch , age 76, was finally released from the prison of Alzheimer's and went into the arms of loved ones beyond the veil on August 5, 2004.
He was born March 6, 1928, the first child of Azie Charles Birch and Geneva Ethel Mann in Salt Lake City. He married his sweetheart, Carolyn Tuckett, on November 21, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from West High School and served in the US Navy and later returned to serve in the US Navy Reserve in the SeaBee Division. He retired from the Navy Reserve in 1990. He was employed with Trane Manufacturing Company for many years and also with Brasher Auto Auctions. He loved to serve others, especially his family, his country, his church and his community. He loved serving with the Lions of the state of Utah and especially with the Kearns Lions Club for 37 years. He had the privilege of being Lions District Governor and Council Chairman. He also served three terms on the Kearns Town Council.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn; daughters, Debra, Allison (Grant) Bowen and Lynda (Del) Jeffs; sons, Mark (Joyce) and David (Teri). He has 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Don is also survived by his sisters, LaRae (Ed) Harrison, LaRee (Robert) Birrell, Eulale (Jim) Duncan and Myrle (Sharon) Pace. Brothers, Vaughn (Phyllis) Birch and Calvin (Patricia) Birch , a sister-in-law Joyce Birch along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents along with his brother and best friend, Cecil.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 10th at 12:00 noon at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road. A viewing will be Monday, August 9th from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Don 's name to the Utah Lions Foundation at 4384 South 1100 East, SLC, Utah 84124.
The family wishes to express many thanks to the staff and caregivers of Silverado Senior Living Center for Alzheimers and Hearts for Hospice for their love and compassion while taking care of our husband and father.
