MARSHALL FRANK HOLIFIELD (1919-1964), identified with the ranching industry of Lusk, Niobrara County, Wyoming, until hid death, was owner and operator of an 8200-acre property on which he ran a herd of 225 commercial grade angus-hereford crossbreed cattle. He was in the process of building up this herd. Formerly he raised sheep extensively. His brands included Lazy V E and Box D Conected. Mr. Holifield was reared on the ranch of his matenal grandparents from the age of seven years. He inherited his ranch from his uncles, Floyd and Frank Moore. Mr. Holifield served with the U.S. Army in World War 11 from September of 1940 to February of 1944 in the Pacific theater. While in the service he contracted malaria, which contributed to his death on June 26, 1964. Following his service he worked for Continental Oil Company as a pumper in the fields.
Marshall Frank Holifield was born on November 21, 1919, in Chadron, Nebraska, to Julius D. and Lillian Moore Holifield. The subject's mother was born in Providence, Iowa; his father, in Collins, Mississippi. His parents wee married in Harrison, Nebraska, on February 10, 1919. The subject's father engaged in railroading. His mother homesteaded 620 acres in Whitman, Wyoming, in 1916. Marshall Holifield attended schools in Whitman, Manville, and Lance Creek, Wyoming.
Mr. Holifield married the former Nevada Osborn, daughter of Merlin and Elizabeth Cook Osborn, on February 10, 1944, in Ogden, Utah. Mrs. Holifield and her paraents were born in Ashland, Kentucky, and her parents were married there in 1912. Mr. and Mrs. Holifield adopted two children, Holly David and Jill.
Mrs. Holifield was married on December 27, 1965, to Doyle Blackmore, representative rancher of the Manville area of Niobrara County, Wyoming. He is the son of George and Bessie Blackmore, pioneer ranchers, who came to the united states from England and homesteaded on 320 acres in 1912. The homestead represents part of his present ranch. Mr. Blackmore raised Hereford cattle.
Mr. Holifield was a member of the American Legion and a member of the Farm Bureau. He was a chartaer member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Lance Creek Post. His hobbies included fishing and big game hunting. Mrs. Holifield is a member of the Extension Club. She is a member of the Rebekahs and served as past noble grand. Mr. Holifield proved himself to be an able stockman. He is remembered by all who knew him as a man of fine personal characteristics and high ideals.
