Burial Services Here Monday Morning for Former Madison Resident

Mrs. Josephine Burkhardt, 96 years of age, widow of Fred Burkhardt, passes away yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Catherine Schneider, at Louisville, with whom she made her home. Her death was attributed to infirmities from advanced age.
The deceased was a native of Germany where she lived until after her marriage to the late Mr. Burkhardt. For many years she was a resident of this city, having located in Louisville about fifteen years ago. Mrs. Burkhardt was a life long member of the Catholic Church and was a devout Christian, She will be well remembered by the older residents of Madison and a host of friends in this city who deeply regret to learn of her passing.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Schneider and Mrs. Annie Barr, of Louisville, and Mrs. Tillie Wise of Pittsburg, Pa.; three sons, Conrad Burkhardt of Louisville, Charles Burkhardt of this city, and Fred Burkhardt of Trimble county Kentucky. She is also survived by a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a sister living in Germany.
Funeral services are to be conducted in Louisville Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock. After the services the funeral party will leave overland for this city where burial will be made about 11:00 o'clock at Springdale Cemetery. Friends are invited to the cemetery for the last rites.

Native of Saarland Dies; Rites Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Anna Burkhardt, 96 years old, who died of infirmities at 8 o'clock Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Katherine Schneider, 208 North Thirty-second Street, will be held at 8:30 o'clock Monday morning at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Madison, Ind.
Mrs. Burkhardt was a native of Saarland, Germany, living to realize her oft-repeated hope that it would be returned to Germany. She came to the United States in 1881, living for a time in Trimble County, Kentucky, and at Madison. She moved to Louisville in 1917.
Other sutvivors are two daughters, Mrs. E. J. Bahr and Mrs. Matilda Weis, Pittsburgh; three sons, Conrad Burkhardt, Charles Burkhardt, Madison, and Frederick Burkhardt, Miton, Ky.; a sister living in Germany; thirty-five grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
