Alta D. Bates, 77, of Ravenswood, passed away Jan. 12, 2011, at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston, W.Va.

She was born Aug. 22, 1933, in Murraysville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Rollie DeLong and Hazel Milhoan Delong.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Sherman Women's Club and a member of First Baptist Church in Ravenswood. She loved cooking, quilting and crocheting. She had 51 years of a wonderful marriage and was dedicated to her family.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Glen Bates, Ravenswood; daughters, Bonnie (John) Tolley, Pickerington, Ohio; Barbara (Duane) Bennett, Parkersburg, and Teresa (Terry) Ocheltree, Ripley; six grandchildren, Candice Dutton and Alex Bennett, Parkersburg, Zachary and Kyndall Tolley, Pickerington, and Tara and Paige Ocheltree, Ripley; three great-grandsons, Nick, Chris and Cameron Dutton, Parkersburg; one brother, Eldon (Clara) DeLong, Murraysville, W.Va.; three sisters, Sallie Cather and Ethel DeLong, Murraysville, and Jean (Charles) Stephens, Sherman, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant brother, Paul.

Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Pastor Anthony Pratt officiating. Burial will be in Ravenswood Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
