Barbara Swift, 73, Webster, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, in a care center at Roslyn.

Funeral services were today (Thursday) in St. John's Lutheran Church at Webster with the Rev. Kristin Ostercamp officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Vangen Lutheran Cemetery at Mission Hill. Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Gale Buckman was born Oct. 10, 1937, to Ralph and Myrtle (White) Buckman in Nampa, Idaho, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1955. She attended the University of S.D. in Vermillion and taught school in Bonner's Ferry, Idaho.

On June 13, 1960, she married Douglas Swift in Gayville. They lived in Spearfish, where she was a homemaker. They had one son and adopted one daughter. In 1964, they moved to Glendale, Calif., where she was a researcher and librarian in Santa Barbara. In 1967, they moved to Indian River, Mich. She worked at Sears and was a den mother for her son's Boy Scout den. In 1974, they moved to Webster, where she was a librarian for the Webster Public School system for 25 years, retiring in 1999.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council, was active in WELCA and the Red Hat Society and was a supporter of Lutheran's Outdoors. She enjoyed reading, collecting stamps and traveling.

Survivors include one son, John Swift of Kissimmee, Fla.; one daughter, Kathryn (Chad) Dobney of Decorah, Iowa; one foster daughter, Kim (Aaron) Dekkers of Hawarden, Iowa; two brothers, Robert (Nancy) Buckman of Sneads Ferry, N.C., and William Buckman of Port Austin, Mich.; and nine grandchildren.
