Brenda Kay Shaw, the daughter of Bill and Kay (Figgins) Mulkey, was born May 3, 1957 at Nelson, Nebraska. She departed this life on Thursday, May 20, 1999 at her home in Guide Rock, Nebraska at the age of 42 years and 17 days.
Brenda spent her early childhood years on the farm north of Guide Rock. Later the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. Following her father's death, they lived for a brief time at Kearney, in Colorado and Campbell, Nebraska, before moving to Red Cloud. Brenda completed her formal education graduating from the Red Cloud High School with the Class of 1975. On April 10, 1976, she was united in marriage with Keith D. Shaw in Guide Rock, where they continued to make their home. This union was blessed with three children: Sarah, Rodney and Anna. Brenda was employed with the South Central Community Health Center in Red Cloud, and later worked at Granny's Kitchen in Guide Rock and then as a cook with Casey's General Store in Red Cloud.
In her leisure time, Brenda greatly enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. For a number of years she taught swimming lessons. She enjoyed baking cookies and her greatest enthusiasm in life was for her family.
Left to treasure her memory are her loving husband, Keith of Guide Rock; her children: Sarah Shaw of Roseland, Nebraska and grandson, Jordan; Rodney Shaw of Hastings, Nebraska, and Anna Shaw of Guide Rock; her step-father Wayne Cover of Hastings; four sisters: Cyndi Schultz of Apple Valley, California; Kathy Stoner of Blue Hill, Nebraska; Linda Burnett of Hastings, Nebraska, and Dawnetta Buckingham of North Bend, Nebraska; other relatives and her many friends. Brenda will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
