Vasiliki 'Bessie' (Bekios) Marchelos, of Lauderdale By The Sea, died Weds., Dec. 22, 2010. Vasiliki was born in town of Perista, Nafpaktias, in the mountainous region of central Greece. As a young child, she dealt with the death of her younger brother George and survived the German occupation with her parents, Elias & Theoni Bekios and younger siblings: John and Helen. In July 1947, Vasiliki and her family sailed to New York. In the early 1950's Vasiliki met the love of her life, Constantinos Marchelos and married on October 31, 1954. They had 3 children: daughter, Adrianne and sons: Spiro and Louie. She loved Greek dancing and the Greek clarinet 'clarino'. In 1994, she followed her sons to South Florida. Since 1999, when coming into their restaurant,'Athena By The Sea', Vasiliki and Constantinos would great their friends and customers. Vasiliki was the nurturing mother to all. On April 10, 2010, her husband, Constantinos died. A few months later she found the happiest joy that she was to become a great-grandmother. On December 22, 2010 Vasiliki joined Constantinos in heaven. Survived by children: Adrianne (Nicholas) Diakonikolas; sons: Spiro (Nikki) Marchelos and Louis (Martha) Marchelos; grandchildren: Irene (Tommy) Drivas, Vasiliki Victoria, Marionna and Stephanie; brother, John (Jeri) Bekios; sister, Helen Vasilakis, brother-in-laws, Gerassimos (Efterpi), Vasilios (Joya), Panagis (Popi); and extended family in New York and Greece.
