Charles "Charlie" Van Alstine was born July 23, 1898 at Stafford, Oklahoma to parents Frank Leonard and Nora Kiser Van Alstine. He married Minnie Ethel Gamble (born October 18, 1899) on April 25, 1920. Three boys were born to this couple: Alvin Earl born February 1, 1921; Charles Berton born February 11, 1923; and Alton Ray born October 8, 1926. All three were born in Clinton, Oklahoma, graduated from Clinton High School and all three served in the Armed Forces in World War II.
Charles Van Alstine started working part time for the Railroad Express Company on January 1, 1918, while he finished high school in Clinton, Oklahoma. He worked many offices in Oklahoma before he was appointed agent at Seminole in 1942. He passed away of a sudden heart attack on November 20, 1960 at Seminole, Oklahoma. He was originally buried in Mapel Grove Cemetery in Seminole but his widow later moved his grave to Stafford Cemetery in 1982.
"Uncle Charlie" aka "Pop" to his grandchildren was a cigar smoking, card playing, fun loving man! He was a great joke teller, loved a good laugh and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family very much.
