Harry M. Baker, 86, died December 28, 2010. He was born in Blairsville, Pennsylvania to Frank and Elsie Erb Baker on September 23, 1924. A nickname, "H" stuck with him from childhood throughout his life. "H" was quietly unassuming, and loudly independent, never revealing to anyone if he indeed needed help. He laughed and smiled easily, sharing a great sense of humor which he had in common with the other members of his family. Cards were a passion of his and he had many colorful names for his fellow card players should he be losing.

He never bragged or even spoke of the distinction he carried by being the recipient of two Silver Stars earned while serving in the Navy on the battleship, U.S.S. Indiana during World War II. His ship saw action in the Truk Atoll raids, the Mariana Islands, Leyte Islands, Solomon Islands, Okinawa and Iwo Jima.

"H" was afflicted with narcolepsy. He could fall asleep standing up, sleep soundly for twenty minutes, then wake up and rejoin the fun, still standing and never spilling a drop.we all laughed with him. An avid walker, he had never been to a doctor or hospital in his life. He was well known for walking to work from Mansfield to Bucyrus when his car was down. Mansfield Tire and Martin Steele share many years of his work history.

Many causes benefitted from his contributions. "H's" last years were spent enjoying his family of fellow Owl and Eagle Club members.
Surviving are his children, Jack Harry, Edward and Patricia; a sister, Iva Edwards of Inverness, FL; and several nephews and nieces whom he reveled in shutting down at cards. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Arthur "Art", who was killed in Italy in WWII, John "Jock", William "Bo", Harold "Haldie" and Franklin "Teet"; sisters, Marian "Mare" Kiser and Betty "Jean" Hall; and his long time lady friend, Daryl Prosser.

There will be no visitation or services. Burial will be in Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Mr. Baker.
We all drink one for you Harry.so long.
