Arline Jeannette Black, 87, wife of the late A. Dwight Black, died March 20, 2007 at a Blue Hill Hospital. She was born Dec. 15, 1919 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, the youngest of eleven children born to Frank and Herminie (Dumas) Bishop.
She served in the Navy as a WAVE during World War II and was stationed in San Francisco, CA. She and Al were married on Treasurer Island, CA in their Navy uniforms. Arline worked as a ?Temporary? clerk for 30 years in the Surry, Maine Post Office. She did volunteer work for the American Red Cross, Ellsworth, ME, and was one of the first to receive the prestigious Clara Barton Award from this Chapter. Arline was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellsworth, ME, Surry Garden Club, Surry Community Improvement Association, Surry Grange #450, Surry Historical Society, East Surry Extension Service and the Union River Stamp Club. Arline loved having friends together for picnics at the shore on Patten Bay.

Arline is survived by a daughter Janet Arline Stanley and her husband Gregory of Surry, ME and a granddaughter Rebecca of Mt. Desert, ME.; a sister, Leona (Lee) Swett, of Haverhill, MA. many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters.
Spring interment will be at the Village Cemetery, Surry. (Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home on-line)
