Catherine graduated from McAlester High School in 1937 and studied at Hershey's Business College in McAlester the following year. Her first job was assistant bookkeeper and secretary at Kerr Furniture Company in McAlester. In 1939, she worked for Gladstein's Hide Company, a cowhide processing company. From 1941 to 1943, she was the only court reporter in the Pittsburg County Courthouse, serving the Honorable Judge W.H. Davidson. In 1942, she met highway patrolman Otto Rauch and they were married on May 24, 1943. They lived in Lawton, Frederick and in Wewoka, where their daughter was born. In the spring of 1946, her husband was transferred to Poteau. It was there that she became the publisher of the LeFlore County Sun newspaper. She sold ads, worked the books, edited, copied, helped print and label addresses, sent bills to advertisers and even found sources and wrote stories. In 1953, her husband was transferred to Okmulgee. Leaving Poteau and her newspaper career, she found work as a bookkeeper at the Mueller Tire Company. Just four years later, her husband was transferred to Enid where she found a series of diverse and interesting jobs, including secretary to the director of Enid Chamber of Commerce, bookkeeper at Security National Bank, in the catalog department of Sears Roebuck, and in the book catalog department of Phillips University Library. Her last job was her longest, working 19 years as cashier and bookkeeper in the Emerson Junior High School Cafeteria. She retired in 1994, completing a 58-year work career. After retirement, she enjoyed reading. Catherine passed away at her home in Enid. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Rauch and husband, Jim Hunt, San Antonio, Texas; grandson, Casey Marshall Weeks, Atlanta; one nephew and numerous nieces and caregivers.
