STEVE J. GRGURICH
Steve J. Grgurich, 85, of Williamson, died peacefully Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Westview Care Center in Indianola, Iowa.
Steve was born on October 9, 1924 in Tipperary, Iowa and grew up in Williamson, Iowa. Soon after graduating from High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving until the end of WW II. He then attended and graduated from Parsons College in 1949.
In 1953 he married Leta McDowell and together they raised three sons.
Steve dedicated over 30 years to helping veterans at the Knoxville, Iowa VA Hospital, retiring as Chief of Vocational Therapy.
After retiring, Steve served as a Lucas County Supervisor, worked on his small farm and served on the Lucas County Veteran's Affairs Board unil his ill health. He always had a special place in his heart for all veterans.
Steve was devoted to his family as a husband, father and grandfather. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in all their activities.
Steve was preceded in death by his sisters, Matilda (Martin) Vneich, Mary (Steve)Tomlin of Gary, Indiana, Rose (John) Polich of Melcher, Ann (Dick) Shelton of Concord, California, brothers, Bill (Mary Ellen) Grgurich of Gary, Indiana and John (Shirley) Grgurich of Des Moines.
Left to honor his memory is his wife Leta, sons, Fred (Anita) Grgurich of Indianola, Steve Grgurich of Williamson and Randy (Colleen) Grgurich of rural Chariton, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Fielding Funeral Home. Family met with friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery. Officiating was Pastor Paul Olson. Pallbearers were Seth Grgurich, Callie Grgurich, Layne Grgurich, Conner Grgurich, Kendra Cantelope, Courtney Grgurich, Grant Gjgurich and Holly Grgurich.
