Georgie Bell was a West Virginia gal who rode in buggies and walked to school 3 miles there and 3 miles back...in the snow or rain or heat. And that's a true fact. She lived on a huge farm with her parents and siblings.

She had one older sister, Nilah and one younger sister, Clacy. And one younger brother Eugene. As a middle child she probably didn't get as much attention as the rest of the kids. But it never seemed to bother her.

When she grew up she was in the first graduating HS class at her small country school. She later on went to college and became a teacher herself.

She taught in a one room school house - all grades.

When Georgie was about 20 yrs. old she was in a bad car accident where her leg was broken. It wasn't set right and it healed wrong. Her one leg was actually shorter than the other... so she had a terrible limp. Eventually she was able to get special shoes made. Still I always felt so sorry for her. Grandma was a kind hearted, quiet but fun lady. She had a great sense of humor.

At the age of 24 she married Christy Snead on the 30th of Dec in 1926. They were married until he died in 1958. She never remarried.

After her husband's death she went to work at a YWCA (Young Women's Christian Assoc.)in Dayton Ohio where she was a live-in "house mother" to all the young ladies who lived there. Years later way after she had retired she still recieved many cards from these women at Christmas. They all loved her.

When she retired she moved back to Virginia...living in Roanoke for the rest of her days. She loved it there. It was close enough for her to visit the place of her birth over in Gap Mills, WV.

Georgie only had one child - a daughter Jean - whom she doted upon. She had 2 grandchildren and enjoyed writing them letters, talking on the phone and trading recipes. Her other interests were reading and playing the piano.
