Early in 1917 he was a Conductor for the United Rail Road of San Francisco, California.
He served in the Army from 5 Sep 1917 to 22 Jan 1921 and was a Corporal in Co. K, 26th Infantry, 1st Division. He received gunshot wounds in both legs in WW1.
He later was a Line Type Operator for The New York Sun newspaper in Manhattan, NYC, NY, NY.
