Alice Jackson Spivey Holder, 93, of Sanford, N.C., died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Sanford Health and Rehab. Center.

Mrs. Holder was born in Hoke County (birth certificate says Lee County) on April 26, 1917, to the late Luther Jackson and Carrie Wicker Jackson. She lived in Lee County most of her life and was the oldest of ten children. Mrs. Holder was an ardent gardener and quilter and was retired from Cornell-Dubilier. She was preceded in death by both husbands, Howard M. Spivey, Sr and D. F. Holder; brothers, Luther, Frank and Jimmy Jackson; and sisters Edna Stutts, Alma McGehee, Mae Taylor, Josie Godfrey and Janice Stone.

Surviving relatives are sons and daughters; a sister of Sanford; eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 PM Thursday, May 13, 2010, in the Fellowship Hall at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church and other times at the family home on Colon Road. The funeral will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010, at 4 PM at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Houston Blair officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
