Dies; Rites Set

John B. (Jack) Tyler, 69, life-long resident of Big Spring, died at a hospital here Tuesday evening.
He had been in delicate and falling health for years and seriously ill for the past six weeks, the last week critically so.
The Tyler family came here in the early 1880's, his father having been with the T&P at Toyah for a short time before. Later Jack Tyler was a straw boss for the T&P and was associated as a warehouse keeper for several years.
In subsequent years he worked at various occupations and was for a time a helper at the Weekly News. He was a well known figure around town. He and an elderly blind man stayed together and he did the cooking for his companion. Several years ago he came near burning to death when fire destroyed his quarters.
Rites have been set for 9 a.m. Friday at the St. Thomas Catholic Church with the Rev. William Meagher, pastor of the Sacred Heart Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery beside the graves of his parents and a sister.
His only survivor is a sister, Mrs. Earl Anderson of Hereford, Ariz. Mrs. Anderson came here several days ago on learning he was critically ill. The remains are at the Eberley-River Funeral Home.
