Charles "Carl" Joseph Battali, 71, a resident of Flagstaff for 28 years, died Jan. 1, 1996.
Carl was a World War II veteran Marine who received the Navy Cross and Purple Heart for heroic actions in the South Pacific as a military scout.
At the time of his death he was a member of the local Marine Corps League and a 14-year employee of the Northern Arizona University Grounds Department as a supervisor of moving. He was an avid fisherman, mushroom hunting enthusiast and a superior metal craftsman.
He is survived by his wife Alice; daughters Kathleen Shiflett and Beth Cordes of Henderson, Ky., and Judith Battali of Flagstaff; son Carl Battali of Flagstaff; and two granddaughters.
