CORPSE IN NEXT ROOM TO FLAMES
Husband Confined to Home by the Same Illness, Removed to Barn – Fire Extinguished.
Fire broke out Wednesday morning about 3 o'clock in the room next to the one where the corpse of Mrs. Ray Hart lay at home four miles northwest of Denmark. Mrs. Hart, who was sixty years old at the time of death, had expired but an hour before the flames were discovered. A defective flue was given as the reason for the fire.
Mr. Hart was confined to his bed by a severe attack of pneumonia, the disease which resulted in his wife's death, and was removed to the barn. The friends and relatives were able to dispatch the fire without removing the body of Mrs. Hart.
Mrs. Hart was born in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1855, her maiden name being Celia Styles. She became the wife of Mr. Hart nearly thirty-five years ago. To this union were born four children, two girls and two boys. Of these Carl lives at Burlington, John at home, Mrs. Edith Blint at Fair Haven, Vermont, and Mrs. Ada Orten resides a mile and a half east of Denmark. The funeral took place Friday afternoon from the Harmony Bethel church at Denmark, the Rev. Funk officiating. Burial took place at the Denmark cemetery.
